He has long flowing drapery and holds a book and pen in his hands. Luke was the writer of the Gospel and recorded the Acts of the Apostles. This figure which is Repaired below knees. 23in. (58.4cm.) 5947. Phenomenal Roman Bronze Cupid, Eros, Ca. 1st to 2nd Century AD. A corpulent nude youth stands with right leg advancing, his arms raised, once holding an attribute in his left hand, his wavy hair arranged in a topknot, with a single plait over the crown of his head, his eyes inlaid in sliver, a rectangular tenon on his back, perhaps for attachment of separately made wings. He stands on the original circular base. 7-5/8 in H. Intact and excellent condition with reddish brown patina. Ex French Collection, Ex Morven Collection of Ancient Art. Published C. Vermeule and J.
