Peru, Ca. 1000 to 1400 AD.
Carved wood standing male ancestor figures with lovely faces painted in red and black natural pigments. Excellent noses. Also wearing woven bird pattern textile head bands. Some old dormant inset loss to torso and, face and legs, otherwise intact. Sizes: 18-1/2 inches (47cm) H. + custom mounts. Provenance: Ex. Westermann collection. Headdresses added but of the period. Compare with similar examples in Ancient Peruvian Wood Sculpture. A special exhibit in 1966 at Andre Emmerich Gallery.
