11017. Mayan Pottery Carved Lidded Cacao Cache Vessel

Classic Period, Ca 550 to 750 AD

Cylindrical ritual carved vase on three raised circular feet. The vase is lidded with the head of a monkey. Exterior carved with handsome winged Maya Deities. Lidded vases were employed to store various precious contents such as the revered cacao drink or beans. Size 8 inches height x 4-3/4 inch diameter of lid. Good surface age. Ex Private Arizona Collector
