11862. Large and Important Greek Pottery Goddess Censor

Magna Gracia or Sicily, Circa 3rd to 2nd century BC

A beautiful terracotta ritual incense burner in the shape of a youthful female bust. She wears a high crown headdress and is draped in a himation. Her large crown headdress has a bowl depression atop showing signs of carbon charges from ritual usage. Wear to painted pigment on surface of which some remains. Size 14-7/8 inches (38 cm) H. Provenance: From the estate of V.P., Linz, acquired between 1995 and 2005.
