11914. Ancient Byzantine Silver Gilt Bracelet

Circa 10th to 12th century AD

A fine and rare silver torque bracelet constructed of heavy silver wires braided together, and terminating into flat, solid triangular tab ends, each decorated with a pattern of raised balls or studs and rope work edging. Diameter: 3 inches. + custom mount.
Adornment in ancient cultures were always of great importance. Citizens would go to great lengths to acquire the latest fashion in clothing, hairstyles, and jewelry. Ancient men, women, and children of all social classes wore jewelry, some of it quite elaborate and some very simple. It was viewed both as adornment and as visible evidence of wealth and social status.
