Mayan Polychrome Cylinder With Young Heroes

12421. Mayan Polychrome Cylinder With Young Heroes

Ca. 500 to 800 AD.

A deep polychrome cylindrical vase with a most beautiful decoration: seated figures and a band of hieroglyphic text running below the rim. The heroes have beautiful facial contour lines and elaborate headdresses. The top register contains the Primary Standard Sequence. Size 7-3/8 inches H.

Excellent original painted surface. Ex Hiroshi Muria, Old Japanese collection.
