12622. Attic Black-Figure White Ground Lekythos with Dionysos
Athens, circa, early 5th century BC.
Slender cylindrical oil vessel decorated in black figure technique and nicely painted and incised mythological scene consisting of a wreathed draped Dionysos reclining between two musicians, one with tambourine, the other with a lyre. Palmette band on shoulder; grape vines in the field. On the shoulder palmettes, rays and red line. Size 8-7/8 inches ( 22.9cm) Height. Provenance: Ex Old Collection of archaeologist and Prof. Rudolf Paulsen, Munich (died 1985).
