12626. Faliscan (Etruscan) Red Figure Pottery Epichysis

Circa late 4th century B.C.

Lovely spool shape vessel with figural decoration atop depicting the head of Aphrodite and a swan between tendrils. On the back of the handle is a palmette and on the neck are leaves and on the edge of the spool is a rays pattern. Size 4-3/8 inches (10.9 cm) H. Repaired at shoulder and chip on back of spool. Provenance: Former collection E.C., Franconia, acquired in the 1920s and 1930s. Old coll label on underside. Quite lovely. Rare.
