13510. Scythian Gold Stag

Western Asia, Circa 400 to 300 BC; said there to be from Khalkhal in northern Iran.

High karat hammered rendition of a multi horned stag. Fine openwork design. Size: 2-1/4 inches (5.6cm) Length. Weight 54 grams.
Compare a similar example in the Cleveland Museum of Art 1985.77.

Provenance: Ex Coll of Louis Beck, 5th Ave NYC, acquired from Jerome M. Eisenberg, Royal Athena Galleries NY 1966s along with the one illustrated on the cover of Art of the Ancient World 1966.

Examined by Dr. Jack Ogden, Striptwist LTD, and reported to be authentic.
