South India, Tamil Nadu, Vijayanagar Period, Ca 13th to 15th century AD

Finely carved, the tantric form of Shiva standing, holding attributes, the lost lower hands would have held a trident and and skull bowl. Adorned with various simple jewelry, he is naked and his hair is arranged in a flaming triangular halo. A dog with a curling tail is pushing against the back of his legs, the god's constant companion.
Massive proportions. Good aged surface and worn features from prolonged exposure. A Massive shrine sculpture.
