Late Classic Ca. 600 to 900 AD.

This stone flattened stylized hacha bears the characteristic style associated with the classic Vera Cruz style. Here depiction a deity in trance with heavily laden eye lids and mouth in open gesture as if chanting.
The Terminal Classic art of the South Coast of Guatemala, also the location of the greatest concentration of stone yokes and hachas other than the Classic Maya area to the North. Size 9-5/8 in H.+ custom mount. Intact. Cf. Shook and Marquis, Secrets in Stone for the type. Ex NY E.M. Collection. Nice ancient surface deposits attest to the authenticity.
