13749. Rare Manteno Stone Standing Male Figure

Manabi, Ecuador. Circa 500 AD

An unusual effigy carved from gray volcanic stone; the male figure stands on an integral rectangular platform base. Depicted holding his arms to his sides, wearing a segmented necklace, flat conical hat and ear ornaments. Overall surface weathering and scattered surface deposits.
Size: 12-1/4 inches H. x 6-1/4 inches W. Minor ancient loss on the rear left corner of base, otherwise intact, overall excellent conditon. Provenance: John A. Moir, Jr. Trust of 2013.
