Cenrtal Coast, Ca. 900 to 1250 A.D.

A black ware ceramic vessel with a seated lords head at neck and with headdress atop globular vessel with two small figures lying on body and feline profile heads at base of spout; the strap handle with ornate chimney fret design. Size: 9-1/2 inches H. Compare Donnan, Christopher, Ceramic of Ancient Peru, #175 for close parallel of shape. Provenance: Purchased at Sotheby Parke Bernet NY sale no 4029, Oct 14th 1977 lot 43. Retains it's SPB tag lot 43; Ex Professor Robert Williamson, Allentown PA, former prof at Lehigh University.
