14135. Fine Vera Cruz Stone Human Form Hacha

Gulf Coast, Mexico, Ca 550 to 950 AD.

This is the head of a ceremonial ball player shown with his helmet that comes down to protect his neck and swoops around the eyes with a flange to protect the cheeks. It has a beautiful abstract quality that would be admired in any sculpture of our current time.

Size: 10-1/2 inches H x 7-1/2 inches Length + custom mount.
Provenance: Ex Conn Private Coll. by descent from father to son, both now deseased. Heir made statement thus: “To the best of my knowledge, this and all items I inherited, were purchased in the 1940's”
