14177. Mayan Polychorme Painted Tripod Plate

Classic Period, Ca 300 to 400 AD.

Wide shallow pottery plate painted with the dancing elite personage or priest wearing a deer head headdress and jaguar pelt wrapped around his waist. He is encircled in a band of psudo hieroglyphs around rim. On three raised legs; Size: 12-1/4 in. diameter x 2-3/4 inches Height.
A nice unrestored or messed with specimen.
Provenance: From the Estate of Thomas A. Cox; Acq at Doyle auction, NY, October 13, 1998, at auction, lot 94.
