14260. Fine Tiahuanaco Wari Polychrme Pottery Skull Vessel

South Coast, Tiahuanaco, Ca. 500-800 A.D.

A fine polychrome decorated skeletal vessel having a tapered spout decorated in relief with a skull having a wide toothy mouth. Wide polychrome decorated shoulder band depicted a stylized face wearing a large plumed headdress, another face on rear with small perforated lug as the nose, and various geometric elements. Size: 5-3/8 inches H. x 3-1/8 inches D. Minor spout and rim chips, otherwise intact, overall exc. cond. A nice example.
