14262. Massive Ancient Terracotta Trade Amphora

Levant, Ca 1st Century BC/ AD

Sizable wheel thrown vessel with cream lip decoration; with short neck, ovoid body, three reinforced loop handles at shoulder and pointed base. Good deal of earth encrustations and paint wear, good ancient patina. Repaired from about half dozen large pieces. Size 34 inches H. x 27 inches Diam. + ring base included. Ex Prominent NY collector DK. acq 2000s.

Used for trade of massive amounts of wine or oil.
