14271. Chontal Green Stone Stone “Ghost” Figure

Guerrero, Mexico, Ca. 400 to 200 B.C.

Carved light blue-green stone standing figure having a tapered disc type head with circular drilled eyes and schematic facial features. Arms held to sides and hands at waist, tapered body and legs with limbs indicated by cut lines.
Size: 9 inches H. + custom mount. Scattered surface deposits. Ancient loss from the top right ridge of head, otherwise intact. A scarce type.
Provenance: Ex. Meza Family collection, Whittier, CA., acquired 1960s. Ex. Fernendez Family Collection: by descent from his grandfather, Dr. R. Fernandez MD., a Spanish citizen, who was a gastroenterologist. His wife was also an M.D., 1940s.
