14272. Veracruz Standing Warrior Whistle

Veracruz, Mexico, Ca. 600-900 A.D.

Buff color pottery standing warrior, wearing an elaborate costume and avian beaked headdress with a large fantail, applied feathered shoulders, and belted around the waist. Whistle incorporated in his right shoulder. Painted red, white and black highlights. Scattered areas of strong mineral deposits on the surface. Missing left raised feathered extension on headdress else excellent condition.
Size: 9-1/2 inches H.
Provenance: Ex. Barry Kernerman, Toronto, ex. Samuel Dubiner collection, Tel Aviv, Israel, acquired 1960s. Similar examples on exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum, NYC. A nice example.
