14291. Ancient Egyptian Bronze Standing Osiris

XXVIth Dynasty, Ca. 646 to 525 BC.

A cast bronze standing figure of the mummiform God, Osiris, wearing an atef crown, with uraeus serpent frontice piece. He holds implements in both hands. Greenish black surface patina with scattered areas of encrustations.
Size 3-1/4 inches H. + base

Provenance: Ex Collection of Dr. Edward A. Spiegel (1931—2020) Professor of astronomy at New York University and Columbia University who worked on convection theory and on the application of fluid dynamics to astrophysics and was the first to discover Chaos Theory. As a professor, he gained a reputation among his students for his amusing stories of meeting other famous scientists such as Paul Dirac and Stephen Hawking. Dr. Spiegel acquired at Barakat & Sons Israel (certificate accompanies the item)
