14440. Nazca Slit Weave Textile Figural Fringe

Peru, South Coast, Proto-Nazca, ca. 100 B.C. - 200 A.D.

Border section from a full mantle composed of nineteen standing figures having long string hairdos, woven in camelid fibers with an alpaca cross-knit fringe in ochre, green, red, blue, and brown, with dark brown string hair streaming downward as the overall fringe.
Size: 4-3/4”W. x 16-1/2”L.
Professionally sewn to a cloth covered wooden stretcher. Excellent condition.
Provenance: NYC collection; Ex. Edward H. Merrin Gallery, Inc., NYC., 1970s-1980s.
