14461. Roman Pottery Erotic Oil Lamp

Eastern Mediterranean Ca 1st to 3rd Century AD.

Simple flat disc form with protruding spout and fill hole. A good crisp scene of two people in coitus in the tondo. Brown slip painting and signs of usage.

Size 4 inches Length. + display base.

These pottery lamps were used through out the Roman Empire for it was primary means of lighting. The erotic theme is a bit rare!
