A fine red-brown pottery standing dog with a rear tail, perked ears, incised toothy mouth and incised oval shape eyes. Overall strong root marks and fine burnished surface.
Size: 13-1/4 inches Length x 9-1/4 in H.. Provenance: T.G. Private Florida Collector Acq around 2000.

This lively dog is a representation of the hairless dogs used in ancient Colima as pets, providers of warmth, and sources of sustenance. Dogs played an important role in the transportation of souls to the afterlife.
