14836. Large Nayarit Pottery Barrel Carassis Seated Warrior

West Mexico Protoclassic, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE.

Fashioned in a stylized manor seated on a stool and holding a club, wearing painted textile armor, earrings, and horned helmet; three-band necklace, and articulated genitali; painted overall in reddish brown with details in cream. A nice specimen. A massive size.
Height: 20-7/8 inches 53 cm.

Provenance: EX D.S. (1927-2012), White Plains, New York, collection, acquired at Parke Bernet, New York, July 23-25, 1980, lot 177A with a copy of redacted invoice.
