14842. Beautiful Tibetan Bronze Seated Tara

ca. 19th century AD.

A cast bronze image of the goddess seated in lalitsana on a lotus with a double row of petals. Her right foot rests in front off the base. She wears a jeweled tiara and her hair is done in a topknot. Resting on her right knee, her hand gestures. Lotus stalks with stylized flowers raise behind her arms. She has exposed bosom, sashes and flowing garment. Remains of inset semi-precious jewels or stones like carnelian and turquoise. Base unsealed. Size : 11.5 inches / 29.2 cm. Height Condition: Losses to 'jewels', wear and otherwise good.

Provenance: Ex: Henry Endicott Stebbins (1905-1973) collection. Mr. Stebbins was the first U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, from 1959-1966, and this figure was purchased directly from his heirs.
