14870. Apulian Gnathian Pottery Four Chambered Lidded Kernos

circa 3rd Century BC

A choice burial vessel consisting of four independent tightly lidded containers, each joined together at sides as a foursome with a high arched handle at center. Decorated with geometric linear bands, and crosses and circles in white, yellow and red on the black ground.

Size: 4-5/8 inches H. (at handle) x 6-3/4 inches diam. across.

Provenance: ExHelge Deikner collection, North Rhine-Westphalia since before 1980.

Exhibited: Antiquities from Public and Private Ownership in the Ruhrland Museum of the city of Essen from May 28 to September 12, 1993 (organized by the Archaeological Museum Altenessen).
