14872. Roman Marble Relief Head of a Barbarian

Imperial Period, Ca 1st to 2nd century AD

Finely crystalline marble relief head of a man, turned to the right, with a full beard and tossed hair. Displays good use of the running drill and deep curl cuts. Size 8-1/2 inches (24 cm). (13 inches H on custom mount). Condition Worn surface and intact fragment. Provenance: Ex H. W. Collection, North Rhine-Westphalia, acquired before 1980.
