14877. Moche Polychrome Pottery Figural Stirrup Vessel: Dreamer
Moche, phase IV, Ca 450-650 AD. Handsome stirrup vessel in the form of a man seated, eyes shut, face animated, wearing a poncho, conical helmet on his head, and large disc-shaped ear ornaments. His legs are drawn close to his body and arms crossed over knees, his head resting on his left shoulder; eyes closed as if resting. Overall decorated in red and beige engobe (slip) pigments. Size 8 inches ( 20.5 cm.) Height Provenance: Ex Helge Deikner collection, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany before 1980. TL Test positive performed in 1989 by Ralph Katola lab to attest to authenticity in dating.
