14909. Fine Egyptian Carved Wood Boatman

Carved seated and wearing a short kilt and short wig, he has two separate carved arms pined in; remains of gesso and white, ochre and black painted pigment. Wear and losses, feet gone. Size: 4-1/2 inches H (5 inches down to extended hand) + custom mount. Provenance Ex MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Illinois, originally collected by professor, Dr Wallace M Sterns, in the 1930s, a member of the Egyptian Exploration fund in 1914.
