14996. Fine Mayan Pottery Polychrome IK site Cylinder Vessel
Montul de San Jose, Late Classic Period, Ca 750 to 760 AD A deep ritual beaker with inward flared side walls finely painted with a tribute scene at a palace gathering. One fat Cacique is up on a platform and before him is a kneeling figure. On either side of these two figures are additional attendants, two on the left and one on the right with a shield. Five figures in total. Hieroglyphic inscriptions and a PSS under rim.
Size: 7 inches (17cm) Height x 4 inches (10.1cm) Diam. A fine example with deep colors and excellent brushwork, intact. with a crack line that has been stabilized without restoration. Provenance: Ex Fl private collector. Ex San Francisco Collector before that.
