Russian Painted Wood Icon of the Virgin and ChildCa. 18th Century AD.Rendered in a nieve flat perspective, the main figures in large scale with angular drapery folds and gilt halos behind heads. Three smaller saints flank the scene's borders. The original icon of this type was supposedly found on a fir tree by Price Vasily Yaroslavich of Kostroma in 1239.
