15126. Apulian Red Figure Pottery Pelike
South Italy Ca 4th Centiury BC A strong vessel with lavish decoration, twin handles on shoulder and with a flared rim and long stem disc foot. A painted sepulchral scene is depicting a nude Eros, wings open behind him as he strides left and is holding a casket; flowers and devices in field. The reverse has a female goddess standing dressed in flowing garments. She also has an elaborate ponytail hairdo and is rendered while in motion holding ritual implements. Palmettes in panels on sides are quite lively. Condition: Intact with the surface having some wear, losses, abrasions and calcified encrustaions. Size: 10 inches high.
