15164. Roman Marble Portrait Head of a Young Patrician

Severan Period, Circa 3rd Century AD.

A handsome head of a boy, his eyes with incised irises and drilled crescentic pupils, his short hair brushed forward over the forehead and temples. The head set into a giallo antico marble bust with socle base from the 17th Century, with the paludamentum, or a cloak or cape fastened at one shoulder, worn by military and well healed Romans.

Size: 16-1/4 inches (41 cm). height including socle and shoulders 40.5 cm.

Provenance: Private Collection, Europe, likely 17th Century A.D. [based on restoration techniques]. Michele Tiziano (b. 1946), Famed Opera Singer, Berlin, Germany.
