15244. Cypriot Limestone Draped Ex Votive

Ca. 6th Century BC.

Carved in an archaic style with arm at sides, wearing a diadem and himation with short sleeves and incised drapery folds. He holding an offering in left hand. Size 12-5/8inches H. (14-3/4 on custom mount). Condition: Head repaired. Provenance: Carmel NY Private collection, acquired in Israel from Nurit and Denny Pinkus in 1984, with COA. Crown diadems, tight-fitting garments and offerings are common attributes of Cypriot votive statues, which were dedicated in sanctuaries and temples. The smiling mouth and stiff pose of this statue are shared with contemporaneous Archaic Greek kouroi. For similar, see V.
