15309. Luristan Bronze Whetstone with Ibex Finial

Caspian Sea Area, Ca. 1st Millennium BC.

A cast bronze fitting terminating in the form of an ibex with stylized long slender neck, thin snout and gracefully curved horns. Set into the original tubular sharpening stone. The stylistic characteristics of this object, the elongated neck, the long goatee beard, the sweeping horns curved back as if to form a circle, reveal a profound sensitivity on the artists part to render the graceful form of this animal.
