Gulf Coast Mexico. Ca. 600 to 900 AD.

A gray volcanic stone implement or effigy depicting a stylized bird with exaggerated angular stance, arms held back, knees bent, recessed eyes and beak-like nose extending over his open mouth. Overall light surface encrustation, good ancient patina. Repairs to arms visible and legs gone.
Size: 7-3/4 inches (20cm) H. + custom base.
