Democratic Republic of the Congo, 19th to 20th Cent AD

A fine carved figural sculpture in tan stone; rendered in an angular poise, he is seated crossed legged with one hand on the hip and the other supporting the right cheek, and wearing a necklace and a cap.

Size 12 inches (30.5cm) high + custom base.

Condition: Nick to eye erased else intact and nice varied old patina.

Provenance: May Department Store, Los Angeles; St Louis Museum of Art, St Louis; Sotheby's NY, Important Tribal Art, May 18th 1986 lot 200; Mr. Romy Rey, London.
