She cradles the infant Horus (Harpokrates) across her lap, her right hand supporting him beneath his body while her left hand reaches toward her breast in the nursing gesture; the child wears the side-lock of youth. The back of the wig is lightly engraved.  Appearing as early in the archaeological record as the Ptolemaic period (305-30 BCE), this customary depiction of the goddess and her son represents a powerful symbol of rebirth.
