The full, voluminous face is carved with finely incised almond-shaped eyes, a straight classical nose, and a sensitive, softly smiling mouth; all hallmarks of the Hellenistic influence that defined Gandharan workshops of the period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAbove the serene visage rises an elaborate coiffure of rhythmic wavy locks drawn upward and gathered into the ushnisha (the cranial protuberance symbolizing transcendent wisdom),  a defining iconographic feature pioneered by Gandharan sculptors and adopted throughout later Buddhist art.
