The interior is carefully slipped a warm red and painted in cream with a bold cruciform layout of nested straight and zig zag lines radiating from a central square, forming four V‑shaped fields that emphasize the concave profile of the basin. The underside is similarly slipped and painted with large angular motifs around each leg attachment, integrating the supports into the overall design. This graphic red‑on‑buff geometric scheme is characteristic of Chupícuaro tripod bowls of the Middle–Late Formative period and closely parallels examples in The Natalie Wood Collection of Pre‑Columbian Ceramics from Chupícuaro, UCLA (see particularly the tripod bowls illustrated as catalogue nos. 242 and 252).

Condition Intact aside from minor expected surface wear and scattered abrasions and tiny losses to the slip and painted decoration; small formed holes at the underside of the legs, original to manufacture as an ancient suspension/venting feature.
