{"product_id":"egyptian-alabaster-cosmetic-beaker","title":"Egyptian Alabaster Cosmetic Beaker","description":"New Kingdom, 18th–20th Dynasty, ca. 1550–1070 B.C., carved from a single block of banded travertine (Egyptian alabaster) into a tall, gently flaring cup with a softly everted rolled rim and a low disk foot, the walls thinned and turned with characteristic New Kingdom precision to reveal the warm honey and cream translucency of the stone. The interior is neatly hollowed to just below the rim, in the manner of workshop vessels intended to hold kohl, unguent, or scented oil, and the surface retains its original polished skin with soft natural veining that shifts from pale ivory to golden amber under raking light. \u003cbr\u003eSize: 8.1 cm high (3 1\/4 in.), the beaker is in fine overall condition, with only minor surface abrasion and light earthen deposits consistent with age and burial, and no restoration observed. Comparable New Kingdom calcite cosmetic vessels are preserved in the Egyptian collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, including the travertine ointment and kohl jars from the Theban excavations of the Museum's Egyptian Expedition (cf. MMA 35.3.22a,b and 16.10.421), and further parallels are held in the British Museum's Department of Egypt and Sudan.
