Third king of the 19th dynasty, circa 1304 to 1287 BC.

A thick side wall of a vessel carved with the prenomen and nomen cartouches of Ramesses II: "User-maat-re whom Re chose, Ramesses beloved of Amun."

"User-maat-re" means "Re is powerful of truth," and "Ramesses" means "It is Re who gave birth to him."

Also carved are bits of titles above the cartouches (maybe "lord of glorious appearances" and "son of Re"), and below are a few broken glyphs that may say "given life forever."

Condition: damages and losses and encrustations. Was once a spectacular luxury item.

Size: 6-1/4 inches high. x 5-1/2 inches W.

Knapp (1915-2010), a former physicist for the Space Program at NASA, had a deep passion for armor and weaponry and acquired many fascinating pieces from the 60s to the 80s during his extensive world traveling.
