The ventral side of the flared hood is cast with detailed geometric chevrons and incised transverse segments rendering the belly scales, tapering downward into the sinuous lower tail curve. The bottom of the coil terminates in a substantial cast cylindrical tenon, demonstrating that this sculpture originally slotted into a socket atop the forehead of a monumental gilded wood, limestone, or bronze royal headdress—such as a nemes, khepresh (blue crown), or divine atef crown—or adorned the prow of a sacred ceremonial bark or processional shrine. Measuring 4 inches in height alone (10.2 cm), and approximately 7 inches in overall height (17.8 cm) on its custom stepped hardwood pedestal fitted with a curved black armature that cradles the rearing cobra securely without altering the integral ancient mounting tenon.
Provenance Ex Private New York City Egyptologist Collection.

Choice and rare.
