framed-chimu-textile-panels-with-bird-motifs
Framed Chimú Textile Panels with Bird Motifs

A framed group of Chimú textile fragments from the north coast of Peru, Late Intermediate Period, c. 1000–1470 AD. Woven in naturally brown cotton and brocaded with camelid-fiber (alpaca) supplementary wefts in gold, yellow, and red, the panels are patterned with stepped profile birds and diamond-and-hook border bands. Most fragments derive from a single elite garment (a loincloth or tunic panel), with additional bands assembled to complete the display. The maritime bird imagery echoes the stepped-bird friezes of the Chimú capital, Chan Chan.

Professionally mounted in a clear acrylic (plexi) case frame size: 21 in.
