The figure is modeled with the elongated proportions, softly rounded shoulders, and serene, downcast expression characteristic of Lao Buddhist sculpture, the face framed by pendulous pierced earlobes and surmounted by a beaded ushnisha rising to a tall, flame-shaped finial. The monastic robe is indicated in shallow relief with a fishtail hem falling in a stepped point at the ankles, and the whole is finished in gilt over a red-brown lacquer ground, with the expected wear and loss to the gilding revealing the underlying lacquer and wood at the shoulders, drapery folds, and extremities — consistent with age, devotional handling, and old surface. The figure stands on its own integral rectangular plinth, further raised on a later black-painted wood display base.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeasuring 25 in.
