Unglazed reddish exterior with visible throwing rings; ancient wear and surface deposits consistent with age.\u003cbr\u003eNishapur was one of the leading centers of fine ceramic production in the 10th–11th centuries, and slip-painted wares like this were tablewares that carried the visual prestige of calligraphy and pattern. The diluted-slip technique over a white ground was itself part of a broader effort by eastern Iranian potters to emulate the bright white surfaces of imported Chinese porcelain.\u003cbr\u003eDimensions: 8 in.
