Framing the upper face and temples is a thick arrangement of tightly coiled, stippled curls that transition into a smooth, rounded volume at the back of the head, characteristic of the coroplastic traditions of Roman-era Alexandria and the Fayum.   Measuring 3.25 inches in height, Surviving as a fragment broken cleanly at the neck from a larger freestanding figure or high-relief vessel appliqué, the piece displays attractive, authentic surface wear and stable burial encrustations commensurate with age. It retains an old Sotheby’s collection label and was formerly in the prominent collection of Dr. Bruce L. Ralston of Tuxedo Park, New York, who assembled his antiquities collection throughout the 1960s and 1970s.","brand":"Art for Eternity","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":67593696051514,"sku":"17932","price":695.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0775\/5120\/6714\/files\/100527.jpg?v=1790628463","url":"https:\/\/howardnowes.com\/products\/roman-terracotta-head-of-a-nubian","provider":"Art for Eternity","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
