Holy Land, Mid–2nd Millennium BC.  Carved from a thick slab of creamy limestone, this Bronze Age gaming board preserves three complete rows of circular depressions, each row neatly framed by incised horizontal lines. A simple criss‑cross pattern along the upper margin adds a decorative accent and helps define the playing surface. Boards with drilled cup‑marks like this are associated with race or tally games played across the ancient Near East, paralleling the more elaborate grid‑boards of Egyptian senet and related funerary games.

During the mid–2nd millennium BC, the Canaanite city‑states of the Holy Land prospered through intensive agriculture and thriving trade with both Egypt and Mesopotamia, which fostered the spread of luxury goods, ideas, and pastimes such as board games. While the precise rules of this local game are unknown, the ordered layout and wear in the cups suggest repeated use over a long period, perhaps in a household or temple context. The piece displays an appealing warm patina, with earthen deposits and surface wear consistent with ancient age and burial.

Size: 8-2/3 in (20.6 cm) long; mounted height greater on modern custom stand.
Condition: Fragment of a larger slab with ancient losses to corners and edges; surface weathering, abrasions, and scattered encrustation, all as shown.

Provenance: Private prominent New York collector Daryl Kulok; acquired in Jerusalem from Leonard (Lenny) Wolfe, licensed antiquities dealer, in the 2000s.

All pieces are unconditionally guaranteed authentic and as described in perpetuity and have been legally acquired and imported in full accordance with U.S. and applicable foreign regulations regarding the movement and sale of antiquities.
