The collection covers about 800 to 30 BC. It includes Geometric pottery, among it a tankard oinochoe, a skyphos and a terracotta horse and rider; Archaic terracotta goddesses and a Boeotian pappades plank idol; Corinthian aryballoi; Attic black-figure, including a lekythos with a four-horse chariot; Apulian Gnathia ware; a core-formed glass alabastron; Tanagra-type and Alexandrian terracotta heads; a bronze strigil, the scraper athletes used after exercise; Hellenistic bronze figures; gold earrings, a Thracian gold fibula and a Hellenistic gold ring; and silver tetradrachms. Prices start at $495.
Most Greek pottery was made for use: for wine at the symposium, for oil and perfume, or as offerings in sanctuaries and graves. Black-figure painting, with figures in black slip on the red clay, came first, in Corinth and then Athens; red-figure, which reversed it, took over in Athens from about 530 BC.
