Ptolemaic Period, Circa 330 to 30 BCE

Carved stone protective plaque pendant having a relief carved depiction of Horus striding on the backs of two crocodiles, and holding a horned animal in his hand. Above his head, the mask-like face of the apotropaic domestic deity Bes.  A beetle incised atop the loop lug.  A good crisp inscription o fifteen horizontal registers of hieroglyphic text, reading right to left, cover the flat back surface and around the outer edges reads:

“...(poison?) ...(your?) ...as stone(?) ...: born of Isis, the Goddess. I have said: I tread (?); by means of ritual power (’magic’), the Golden One(?), I said (to...?); may you say what is effective; me, because(?) you have your ... I know the (command); of the son, (I) have come forth, your mother(?) the huntress/trapper(?) ...Isis,: Foremost of the fowler’s net(?), in order that you make protection against... The bottom surface reading: I...your name; you are safe and sound when I alight(?) ...he has uplifted(?) your bones. The edges reading: “The Shrine-Opener-Priest Djedhor-en-netjerwy, son of Netjerwy-tawy, (son of?) Djedhor-iw-Neit-hat-tawy, (son of?) Djedhor” and “May you cause(?), Re-Harakhty, that he be.... protected(?), safe and sound, this snake of yours (to) heaven(?)... Integral wide suspension loop at the top.

Condition: Base corner chip and some scattered abrasions. An impressive example.
